Impact on Social, Academic, and Emotional Functioning

"Anxiety disorders interfere with the normal social development of children and teenagers. Social phobia make it difficult to socialize with others and may keep teenagers from dating, establishing friendships, attending parties and dances, or participating in clubs. Social and emotional problems may include poor coping and problem-solving skills, low self-esteem, a tendency to underestimate one's own stregnths, and a tendency to see things in a negative way." (Connolly 3-4)

Any kind of anxiety disorder can have a HUGE negative effect on a developing teenager's life. The nervous habits and actions that they are learning now could keep them from getting jobs, having relationships, buying a house, or taking care of their goldfish in the future. Anxiety is common if it's only to some small degree in all teens and many cases are extreme............ that's a lot of neglected goldfish.

The Bright Side of Aniety

"You can use your anxiety to your advantage. Anxiety symptoms like butterflies in your stomach and sweating may happen before delivering a speech, singing onstage, or performing on the athletic field. Many people let fear ruin what might have been a good performance. But anxiety is a kind of energy. By just changing your point of view, you can use the energy of anxiety to give your presentation or activity an exciting, dynamic quality." (Giacobello 12)

Most of the time, anxiety is viewed as a bad thing. We let it control or lives and actions, but if we just have a postive outlook, that energy used on anxiety is used on more positive things. Being worried about something (such as a school project about anxiety) could cause you to do a better job (or worse depending on how you use your anxiety energy.)

Cinder Blocks

cinder blocks are good

cinder blocks are really great

if you hold one upside down,

it looks like a figure eight

you can throw it

you can eat it

you can break it

you can sit on it

with a cinder block, the possibilities are endless

it opens your eyes to a world you wouldn't normally see

with a cinder block comes total happiness

a life with a lot of cinder blocks is good enough for me

Invention

If I were an invention, I would be a teleportation device. Mostly because I love to constantly go places and doing things and with a teleportation device that could be possible. The teleportation device could take me anywhere I would need or want to go in the wink of an eye. So technically I could do anything I would ever want to do. Maybe sometimes though the teleportation device would teleport me to the wrong place, but that could be fun in its own way. Or maybe the teleportation device would mess up and leave half of me behind (splinched in the Harry Potter terminology) but that would be a fun operation. Anyways, a teleportation device is the invention
I would be.
